My client asked me how I was doing today.  "Great!", I answered.  "Wow, you are the only one who's doing great nowadays", he responded.

"I am healthy, my kids are healthy, I love my work, I have a roof over my head and food in my belly.  Why shouldn't I be doing great", I asked.

"When you put it that way, I guess I'm doing pretty well too" he quickly answered.

I have no idea why people FIND things to complain about:  politics, the economy, the weather.  Why not find GOOD things to be grateful for?  Living in America, even for the poorest of poor, we're still a lot better off than the preponderance of the World's population, which lives on less than two dollars per day.

Here is my Optimist Challenge:  for the next week, starting right now, you are not allowed to complain about anything!  I want you to find the good in everything that comes your way!  I want you to work real hard at it!  It won't come naturally at first, especially if you've been complaining for a long time...  Force yourself to do it!  No matter what, find the good in everything!

If you've been complaining about your spouse, find something good about him and focus on that.   Any time you feel like complaining, stop, remember the good and praise him for that!  If you'll keep praising him for the good, by the end of the week he'll give you more reasons to praise him for.

Do that with everything and everybody.  Do you feel like complaining about the economy?  Find something good and praise that instead - example: "Thank God I'm healthy AND I have a job!"

Take the Optimist Challenge and replace your complaints with praises for one full week, then come back and tell me how your life has been impacted by taking this challenge!
