Hurricane Hanna and Memories of Floyd...

I'm in my home now, which is shelter enough.  My office is less than a mile from the beach and I hope all is well there!  My home is about seven minutes to the beach, so I'm not that close.

After that last BIG hurricane I went to the beach as soon as the storm ended and took numerous pictures that early morning.  The storm had eaten into the Cherry Grove Pier, practically chopping it in half.  The top of the pier had landed a couple of miles away on an Ocean Drive stretch of the beach by Tilghman Estates.  The tattered flag was still attached way at the top of it.  I watched as this young woman climbed up on it and retrieved the flag.  She had tears in her eyes.  I started talking with her.  Turned out she was one of the Princes (the family who owns the pier).  She had that stoic look on her face and said:  We'll rebuild it!

...And they did, better than ever!

That's the spirit around here.  The storms come, they move boats and buildings, and piers, and leave behind a mess sometimes.  The people here, they are quiet and nice, but they have grit and determination.  I love the South and I'm proud to be one of them, even though I'm "adopted"!
